Common Car Accident Injuries
Whiplash
We’ve all probably heard of whiplash being a notoriously common injury sustained in car accidents. As a Scottsdale, AZ car accident chiropractor explains, whiplash can be extremely painful and its symptoms can be particularly debilitating for those who have sustained this injury to the cervical spine, or neck. This injury is especially prevalent in rear-end collisions but can happen in any collision, regardless of the level of severity. If you were recently in a car accident and sustained a whiplash injury, you may benefit from chiropractic treatments, such as those offered by Woolston Wellness Center, P.C.
Causes of Whiplash
Whiplash happens as a result of sudden, forceful motion, causing the structure of the neck to rapidly move back and forth beyond a normal range of motion, which ultimately contributes to the painful symptoms associated with this injury. Whiplash commonly happens in car car accidents due to the powerful forces of motion involved. Intervertebral discs act as cushions between the vertebrae that make up the structure of the spine. Whiplash can also cause damage to these.
Whiplash Symptoms
Symptoms may be evident immediately following a car accident, but also may appear in the days following the crash, up to several days after. After being in a car accident, it is critical to seek medical attention, even if you feel as if you are fine.
Common symptoms of whiplash:
- Pain in the neck, back, shoulders, arms
- Headaches near the base of the skull
- Fatigue
- Loss of range of motion in the neck or back
- Dizziness
- Sleep issues
- Blurred vision
- Amnesia or memory issues
- Hearing issues
- Concentration issues
- Numbness in arms & upper body
Whiplash Severity
The severity can vary widely from person to person. Generally, whiplash is considered to be a serious injury, requiring immediate medical attention, although some cases are less severe but lead to painful long-term symptoms.
Chiropractic For Whiplash Symptoms
After seeking medical treatment for whiplash, victims may experience painful symptoms that persist long after the accident. Chiropractic treatments are a viable option for relieving chronic symptoms that are a result of your whiplash. Many patients choose chiropractic to help with their symptoms because it is minimally invasive and in some cases can provide immediate relief from pain and discomfort.
If you suffered whiplash or other spine injuries in a car accident, and are struggling with painful symptoms, chiropractic may be a viable option for you. Consider consulting with a reputable chiropractor in your area to learn what treatments are appropriate for your symptoms.
